MISSION STATEMENT
The Willard Maintenance Department strives to provide quality and excellence in our services to the community. This includes, but is not limited to, maintenance services to public streets and alleys, the water distribution system, the wastewater collection system, tree lawn trees, storm sewers, Greenwood Cemetery, and the Willard Municipal Airport. This department has a service garage to do repairs and services on city equipment and vehicles for all of the other departments. Building maintenance for City Hall and Parks and Recreation is also handled by the Maintenance Department.
 
TREES

The City of Willard is pro-active when it comes to trees. We are very proud of the fact that we have been named a Tree City for over 30 years now.

Trees located between the street and sidewalk are City trees. If you have a concern about a tree, please contact the Maintenance Department and we will inspect the tree and take appropriate action. We work with the ODNR to determine hazardous trees that need to be removed.

When funds permit, we also do a fall tree planting. The City offers trees to residents for planting in the tree lawn. Selection and variety of the tree is to be determined by the City. A nursery will be hired to plant the tree in your boulevard. Thereafter, you will be required to maintain proper care of the tree. You may also contact the Maintenance Department to be placed on a list for future consideration.

 
BRUSH & COMPOST

SUMMER HOURS: The Maintenance Department has a compost area for City residents. This is located at the corner of Fourth and Central in the fenced-in lot. This lot is open Monday thru Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 pm. And also open on Saturdays, 8 a.m. to noon. Residents may bring brush, grass clippings, leaves, and miscellaneous yard waste. If yard waste is in a plastic bag, you must dump out of the bag and take it with you. We will only accept filled bags that are biodegradable. Contact the Maintenance Department at 933-7531 if you have any questions.

This service is for Willard residents only and is not to be used for construction materials, debris, garbage or landscaping timbers. We accept only biodegradable paper bags. For materials not accepted at our compost pile, contact the Huron County Landfill (transfer station) at 419-744-2413.

The City will only pick up brush after a major storm. We do not routinely pick up brush along the tree lawn. Please bring your brush to the compost area.

Because of the tremendous amount of brush we receive, we have a contractor come in and grind the brush into mulch. The City offers this mulch free to its residents.
